1)

What is a quartz countertop made of exactly?

Quartz countertops are not made of pure quartz. In fact, they are made from engineered stone, which is a mixture of different minerals (93%) and a resin or polymer glue (7%). Among the various minerals, there are pieces of granite, marble and crushed natural stone or recycled industrial materials such as ceramic, glass, silica and mirror. Quartz will also be present in this mix. The final result will be a beautiful countertop that looks and feels just like natural stone.

Many choices of colors and finishes a quartz countertop

The quartz manufacturing process allows for a wide range of colors, textures and patterns. It is available in white, black, gray, red, etc. The pattern can be uniform, marble look, with small or large grains. As for the finish, you can choose between a glossy or matte finish. Don’t hesitate to ask for advice from refacing specialists as they have renovated many kitchens and they can assist you in your selection.

Durability of the quartz countertop

Quartz is exceptionally durable, lasting anywhere from 25 to 50 years. Since quartz is made from engineered stone, it won’t crack or chip.

Because it has a smooth, non-porous surface, your quartz countertop will also be highly resistant to stains and scratches.

To preserve the appearance of your countertop, it is recommended that you do not place boiling pots or freshly baked casseroles directly on it. A sudden change in temperature could damage the surface of your quartz. The use of trivets is strongly recommended.

Quartz countertop maintenance

To clean your quartz countertop, simply use a damp cloth, mild soap and you’re all set. In addition, since it has no pores (non-porous), quartz helps reduce the risk of bacteria proliferation. Even better: unlike granite, quartz does not need to be sealed regularly.

The quartz countertop, in perfect harmony with the environment

Quartz countertop manufacturers must follow different regulations to ensure their quality and safety. Here are some certifications related to their fabrication process:

  • NSF Certification: Safe for direct food contact
  • Greenguard Certification: Material will not degrade air quality and is safe for indoor installation
  • LEED Certification: Manufacturing processes are part of a green economy

What’s the cost of a quartz countertop?

The good news is that the price of quartz countertops has come down considerably in recent years due to the growing demand for quartz. More consumer demand has resulted in lower prices.

Having said that, your quartz countertop’s price will be determined by several elements:

  • Quality of the quartz you choose: The more quartz it contains, the higher its price will be.
  • Quantity: The price is determined by the countertop’s dimensions.
  • Thickness: A thicker quartz countertop will cost more. Standard is 3 cm (1” ¼).
  • Cut-outs: The more there are (e.g. sink, cooking surface, soap dispenser, etc.), the higher the price will be.
  • Measuring and installation: To make the quartz countertop for your kitchen, professionals will take measurements. Once the exact dimensions are determined, the countertop can be manufactured and installed.
